Technical Education and it's Importance

Technical Education
Technical Education is different from the education we understand in ordinary sense. It means teaching and learning about the use of machinery and methods at schools, colleges, or technical institutes. In other words, it is a process of acquiring practical skills of various jobs. But it is not detached completely from theoretical education. Vocational training is a simple example of technical education.

Technical education is rather a modern form of education. It emerged with the development of industries, agriculture, transport and communication of the modern time. It provides both theoretical and practical knowledge in using instruments and machines. It imparts special mechanical knowledge and skills on various fields such as engineering, medicine, and agriculture. Technical education trains a person to be industrious and innovate. It provides knowledge of technology. The knowledge obtained is thus practical and job-oriented. Technical education needs to be updated with the changes in technologies and new jobs available in markets.

The modern world is the world of engines and machines. Since mostly depends on technical minds. Technologies are always advancing. In fact, industrial revolution is based on technical innovations. Therefore, scope of technical education is so extensive. It is absolutely necessary for a country to produce technically skilled manpower for it's national development. Properly developed technical education helps build up the economy of underdeveloped or developing countries.

The rapid success achieved by developed countries such as Japan, the USA and Germany is mostly due to their technical education. Nepal is backward because it lacks such education. We are depending on foreign technology and foreign technicians in constructions, industries and transports. We have to pay a lot for their services. Amenities in Nepal here are poorly organized and distributed. Most of our vast resources are left unused. Human resource is still so unproductive in our country. There is mass unemployment even among highly educated people. Though agriculture is our main economic activity, it is till a subsistent activity. True industrialization has not started yet. Trade deficit is very high mainly due to lack of competitive industries. The only way to change all these things positively is to develop technical education according to the needs of the country.

Technical education will make our human resource more productive in our social and economic development. As a result, our resources will be utilized and living standard will be raised. Even those going out for foreign employment will get better jobs. When we can progress all areas, our self-esteem will be restored.

To sum up, technical education is essential for young minds to sustain in this competitive world and for every nation to boost up their development. Education without technical application is not complete and very useful. As this practical education is needed in all professions and areas of developments, the government has to adopt a strong policy of developing and expanding technical Education.
