Mahatma Gandhi | Complete Biography |

The original name of Mahatma Gandhi is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born in Gujarat, India on 2 October 1869After passing the Matriculation Exam he went to England for higher studies. Gandhi completed his law in England and returned to his country in 1893. There he started his career as a lawyer.

Before long, Gandhi went to South Africa where his social life would actually start. He had been appointed a legal representative for the Muslim Indian traders. Gandhi spent a long fruitful time of 21 years in South Africa developing his political views, ethics and leadership skills. During his stay there, he faced discrimination directed at non-white people including Indian Muslims and Hindus. White men were ill-treating the dark Indians there at the same level as they discriminated the native Africans. Gandhi himself was often insulted. and tortured. As a result, he led a non-violent protest called Satyagraha against the British authority.

In 1915, Gandhi returned to India permanently and joined file Indian National Congress which had been fighting for the Independence of India from the British colonial rule. He actively t00k part in the freedom fighting. In 1920, he was chosen the leader of the party. In 1930, the party declared the independence of India but the British government didn’t recognize it. Therefore. Gandhi led the Non-co-operation Movement that year and the On“ India Movement later in 1942. The Non-co-operation Movement Was a civil disobedience movement. During the freedom fighting. Gandhi was sent to jail many times. In the later years, he became famous as the ‘Father of the Nation’ .

Richard Attlee got an act passed for the independence of India‘ Ultimately, on 15th August, 1947, India obtained its independence. However, on 14th August, the country was divided into two countries: India and Pakistan. Unfortunately, the hero of the freedom fighting did‘n’t survive long. Mahatma Gandhi was sh0t dead by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu extremist due to his liberal policy. '

Gandhi lived a very simple life. He was a follower of ‘simp
le living, high thinking’. He teaches us a lesson of nonviolence as well. I;Ie was a great reformer. He championed the social reformation campaign of India as he was deadly against social evils such untouchabillity.  He respected Dalits very much and called them Harijans; the children of God. Gandhi is well remembered for his major virtues. He was a great thinker, preacher of non-violence and nationalist leader. His birthday, 2 October, is marked worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence.
